Samuel Clemens born in 1835 acquired the name Mark Twain in Virginia City after taking a job at a leading daily newspaper making $25 a week. It was during that time that he began signing the name "Mark Twain" to his columns. Mark Twain referenced the late 1800’s the "Gilded Age." The Gilded period once was considered to be a temporary era between Reconstruction and the Progressive Movement. The Gilded era became known as the beginnings of modern America.
Thomas Jefferson called the election of 1800 “The Revolution of 1800” because the Republicans peacefully received the power from the Federalists in the election. It was the first shift of power in the United State 's government since it had become a country. To Jefferson and his supporters, the defeat of the Federalists ended their attempt to lead America on a more conservative and less democratic course. The election of 1800 was appropriately named the “Revolution of 1800” because it had long-lasting impact on the United States in terms of politics and economics.
William Jennings Brown was a beloved orator and political figure from the 1890’s till his death in the 1925. He was known for his abilities to capture a crowd and keep them enthralled for hours as he talked about anything. From an early age though he knew that he wanted to be like his father, following in his footsteps to the political realm. Good morning students and teachers. I honestly can't believe I've made it through my last year of schooling here at Southern Cross. Throughout my senior English studies, I have realised that individuality is something that is unfortunately lost amongst the trends and expectations of a developing society. Especially in regards to adolescents, I believe that it can be incredibly difficult to maintain a sense of independence and uniqueness in a society where everyone is expected to conform to the majority. Over the last two years, texts such as “The Kite Runner”, Shakespeare's “Othello”, Robert Frost's “Into My Own”, and the film “The Breakfast Club” have definitely inspired me to be myself and to stay true my own beliefs.

As a means to make sure that the correct people get the credit and recognition for changing history, one must fully recognize the importance of who freed the slaves. Thus, correcting historical records to match the evidence of who ultimately, freed the slaves. Historian Ira Berlin stated, “Such interest in a document whose faded words cannot be easily seen, let alone deciphered. . . raises important questions about the role of history in the way Americans think about their racial past and present.” If historical records are fixed to give much due recognition it will change how Americans think about and view the past.

One theme that has spoken to me throughout the semester is the idea of living up to one’s full potential. I began this semester by believing potential could be found in the pride of my parents. As long as they were proud of me as a sun, then I had reached my full potential; however, this changed throughout the semester. This idea first started with Prince Henry attempting to have a royal identity when he was not having fun with his friends. I often struggle with this myself.
This essay is about everything that we have learned from this semester. We had 2 different “units” this semester. This year’s semester totalled to 18 weeks. The two units I will take about will be the Acting Unit and Shakespeare Unit.
I had a lot of fun reading all these essays that my classmates clearly put a lot of thought into. There were definitely a few topics that almost all my peers addressed and that was the idea of humility and empathy that arises from reading, I Know why the Caged Bird Sings. As Andrew states, “Through her words, she helped me understand the pain, suffering and fear that was endured by her people. It was unlike any history book I had ever read. I had finally understood on an emotional level that there were real people experiencing these events.”.
English 102 Reflection During the course of English 102, I took this year of the spring semester. I have accomplished a variety of goals I once thought were impossible. I have not only grown as a writer and a student but as an individual as well. I feel that through my experience of this English course, I have achieved knowledge and self-confidence to step out into the real world.

Every great time period eventually has to come to an end. As time goes by no person will ever know when aspects could start to go wrong. The Middle Ages, from the 5th century to the 15th century, was a time period that was very successful, but came to an abrupt end. The church was the center of attention and beliefs were strictly based off of superstitions. The Middle Ages were composed of and relied on three main systems; feudalism, manorialism, and the Roman Catholic Church.
