The Gilded Age, a period from approximately 1869 to 1900, was, in many respects a golden age of advancement for America. The economy boomed, wages rose, and incredible new technologies were created. At the forefront of this progress stood industrial leaders. Their investment capitals helped bolster innovation and their companies improved transportation, communication, and nearly every other aspect of life. The government was partially laissez faire but also willing to step in at times, providing land grants and other incentives, spurring growth.
The Gilded Age was the period through 1868 to 1896 that came to be during Ulysses S. Grant’s presidency. This period introduced many highlights for instance, high voter turnouts and growth in entrepreneurship with names like Andrew Carnegie and Cornelius Vanderbilt dominating the business world. However, it was disgusted with many faults, for example, unethical political strategies like patronage and inhumane working conditions. The Gilded Age was the era of rapid industrialization in America which resulted in the increase of jobs. This period is known as the Gilded age because it alludes to the idea that things on the surface were not as amazing as it seemed to be, and underneath it was very corrupt. During the Gilded Age, America went through positive and negative events which shaped America greatly. Primarily, the growth and conflict in America was, in the end, positive. The Gilded Age was a time of great growth, but with growth comes conflict just as the good comes with the bad. The bar graph showing the manufacturing workers in the United States from 1850 to 1900 represented that from 1850 to 1900 there was an increase of workers and these workers were mainly immigrants who had immigrated from their home country to America.
After the Reconstruction of America, we entered into a time referred to as “The Gilded Age”. In this time period, there were a few monumental companies that tried to be the one and only of their type, a few examples would be the US Steel Co., and the Standard Oil Co. These companies were rising up and trying to completely eliminate all other companies that would compete against them, and ultimately, have a monopoly on the product or service. At the time, this wasn’t illegal, but people who were trying to rival these grandiose companies were enraged. Therefore, they started calling them “Robber Barons” referring to the old ranks of nobility, where a baron was an owner of a large segment of land.

The gilded age was the period from the 1870s to about the 1900s. They called it the gilded age due to the economy being viewed as suitable from the outside, but inadequate from the inside.
Since life began on Earth, the world has substantially improved and grown to its current state—the remarkable age of industrialization. Day in and day out, the nation continues to develop as discoveries are being made. This culture not only influences America’s social values, but those of developing countries. Specifically, America is recognized for its quality of life, in disregard of what it took to achieve the freedom that the people deserve. After the Civil War and Reconstruction Era, early civilization in both the North and the South ultimately struggled with accepting change in order to prosper.
The period after Reconstruction, the last few years of the nineteenth century, was known as the “Gilded Age”. The “Gilded Age” was named by Mark Twain in 1873 and was a period of transformation in the economy, government, technology, and social customs of the U.S. The transformation lead to a more modern society which was once small regional communities. Congress continued to reform the west which meant redistributing land that was owned by Indians. This caused great conflict that involved many wars.
The period of the Gilded Age, the age between the period of 1860 and 1900 was a time of industrialized improvements. Yet, to be optimistic and think that the time would have improved the working condition, well we could not have been wrong. Instead of improving them, the working condition became worse. In the Nineteen Centuries, the time of labor was harsh and unbearable.
The Gilded age was a period in the late 1800s (1865-1900) that showed tremendous increase of wealth caused by the industrial age. The lifestyle of the rich during this period hid the many problems of the time that eventually brought about the progressive era movement. This was a movement for reform between 1900-1920s. Progressives typically held that the irresponsible actions of the rich were corrupting both public and private life. Forces such as immigration, the Populist Party and industrialization that led to the progressive era also impacted the American government both in its activeness and its democracy.
The Gilded Age lasted from 1870 to World War 1, “1900s.” The Gilded Age was a period of fast economic development, but also much social struggle. Mark Twain in the late nineteenth century founded the “Gilded” Age, which means covered with gold on the outside, but not really golden on the inside, for example, tin. This period of time was glittering on the surface but corrupt underneath. In other words, the outside looked beautiful, but the inside looked old and trashy.
The Gilded Age was to describe America in the late nineteenth century. The outside of the US seemed glamorous and splendid alongside industrial development and massive economic growth. However, the dark sides were hidden beneath it. In my perspective, I believe we are living in the 2nd Gilded age.
