The skype with Rae Strozzo was a very interesting experience. I have never had a class that has done something like that in the past. He was a very nice guy to listen to and to be honest I had never talked to a person in his situation or like him. Up until that day in class I had never talked to or know of a transgender person. So it was an all new experience for me. The thing I liked the most was how he acted just like a normal person. If I had saw him walking along on the street I’m not sure if I could have told you he was a transgender. That just goes to show you can’t judge people for what you see right away or by what their real background is. I loved the gingerbread person example. It was a cute and simple way to try to understand the simplified concepts. It is more powerful than I think we notice in our lives especially because most of us are white. We have no idea of the struggles and obstacles some people have to conquer just because they aren’t white. I do notice some white male privilege because I’m a female, but it still isn’t barely enough to affect me because I am still white. I don’t think I could imagine the lives of people that are different races and female at the same time. It makes me want to study more on some of the obstacles people have to face without having any control over it. They just have to do it no matter what, it is what they are born into. I think a lot of white people don’t want to admit they have the upper hand because then they would have to feel guilty about it. If you think about it though it isn’t their fault either, they were just dealt a better hand when they were born. The discussion with Rae does make me want to learn more on white privilege and how to not support it, but try to make it more even in the long
