My symbol was the block. I thought this represented the ghettos and living spaces in the camps. My first detail is that Elie stayed in a ghetto when he first got involved in the war. “Two ghettos were created in Sighet.” (Wiesel 11)

In the book, "Touching Spirit Bear" by Ben Mikaelsen, Cole Mathews, a 15 year old kid who is a juvenile delinquent, was sent to an island and was mauled by the Spirit Bear. After the mauling, Cole used many symbols to change. The three best symbols that helped Cole change are, soaking in the pond, the ancestor rock and the Spirit Bear. In the story “The Giraffe” by Mauro Senesi the giraffe is given human like characteristics such as feeling cold, getting frightened and crying. When first brought into the town the giraffe is an unusual sight for everyone. There are people that appreciate the giraffe like the boys and some freak out when they see the “beast”. The symbol I chose was God for Eli because he does talk about God quite often during his days in the holocaust from the book Night. Having to go to adulthood from childhood at the early age of sixteen this story helps show Janie’s struggle and the realizations of her dreams going through the hardships of three marriages. And, being a black woman in early 20th century America. The author used nature as symbolism to help guide us through Janie journey to finding herself. John Grady Cole’s search for existence in All the Pretty Horses is long and painful when looking at his journey to Mexico as a whole. Cole decides to stay in Mexico after meeting the love of his life, Alejandra, which is when he discovers the meaning of his life (Delafuente).
One of the three main symbols used were the grandmothers clothing. This was shown by in the beginning she cared solely about how others saw her whereas towards the end she didn't care for her apparel and truly on cared for finding grace and redemption. Another main symbol used was the weather. The weather in the story started off with no clouds and no sun during the day and ended clear with no clouds showing that the grandmother, in the end, was able to find grace and redemption through a tough time.
