The 21st century is an age of great advancement of technology. We have solutions to many problems that previously there were no solutions for. However, many children around the world are dying as you read this. They are dying from a simple problem, a VPD, an acronym for vaccine preventable diseases. In fact, the number is one child every 20 seconds. (The Big). In today’s day and age, a statistic like the one mentioned earlier should not exist. There are multiple causes to this horrifying statistic. However, these causes all can correlate to one issue: the lack of vaccinations in the countries where contracting a VPD is deadly. Among these organizations that are helping are: UNICEF, WHO, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Global Health Council, GAVI the Vaccine Alliance, and PATH. These organizations help out by administering the vaccines, transporting vaccines and providing financial support. Several of the major organizations are involved a program known as GVAP, the Global Vaccine Action Plan, which is, as mentioned on the World Health Organization website, “The Global Vaccine Action Plan (GVAP) is a roadmap to prevent millions of deaths through more equitable access to vaccines by 2020…” (Immunization Coverage). A way we can help is to volunteer to help out in these organizations and helping with events run by these organizations. We can volunteer here at our home country by helping with fundraisers for these organizations. Also, we can help by volunteering to help with events that are sponsored by these organizations to raise awareness. We can volunteer and make even a more significant difference when we help abroad. By helping abroad, it means to help in the developing nations at field hospitals and temporary medical facilities run by these organizations, which can greatly impact the suffering children in a positive
