Glory and 12 Years a Slave are both movies that deal with slaves and the Civil War. Both movies take place around the same time. Both also include hardships faced by African Americans during that time. Though they have similarities, they also have some differences. Glory focuses on the war and black troops while 12 Years a Slave focuses on slavery in the south. Also 12 Years a Slave has a satisfying ending, while Glory has a very tragic ending. Though these movies have many similarities, they also have their differences. There are many similarities between Glory and 12 Years a Slave. One thing these movies have in common is that both of the movies take place during or close to the civil war. Also, in both movies African Americans face many hardships. The hardship faced in 12 Years a Slave is Solomon Northrup being captured into slavery. In Glory the hardships they face is the discrimination from other soldiers. Also, their treatment such as unequal pay. In both movies, the African Americans show great bravery in the movie. In Glory, Colonel Robert Gould Shaw was harsh to the black troops like Mr. Epps from 12 Years a Slave. But, Shaw cared for the troops and was much less harsh than Mr. Epps. Two similar characters are Solomon Northrup and Sergeant Major John Rawlins. Both are very intelligent, brave and experienced slavery. Private Trip and Mr. Epps are also both angry people and treat others poorly. The difference, though, is that Trip learned to respect the others while Mr. Epps did not. I also think Corporal Thomas Searles and Patsey are alike. This is because they both were treated badly in the movies. But, they are different because Thomas was never a slave like Patsey.
