I am extremely pleased to recommend Dr. Daniel Gloster’s 2016 MNS Divisional Award for Excellence in Teaching for Part-Time (Adjunct) Faculty. I had first met Dr. Gloster in the Spring 2016 semester when I was taking Chemistry 113.4. I was required to take Chemistry 113.4 to complete my double major in both Computer Science and Applied Mathematics. Ever since the first day, he had always came prepared to class and had impeccably followed the syllabus course schedule. During his lectures, he was able to give clear explanations and had always made sure to do examples with a student to see the application of the lesson. Despite his single minded focus to have students ace the ACS exam and his determination to teach chemistry the best he could, he always made sure to inform his students that he would do everything in his power to help them. Dr. Gloster was patient and had more than happily stayed a little longer with students after the lecture to clarify concepts covered in class. On top of that, …show more content…
During the Spring 2016 semester I was also taking Physics 146 and it proved to be the most intense course I had ever taken. However, Dr. Gloster’s lessons on unit dimension, the application of Coulomb’s Law to obtain the lattice energy of ions and the magnetic properties of diatomic molecules proved to be invaluable. It not only reinforced my knowledge of electricity and magnetism, but using unit analysis had facilitated me in both understanding the new units such as Tesla, Amperes, etc. that I encountered in my Physics 146 class. The unit analysis lectures proved be a vitally important as it allowed me to check my work on both Chemistry and Physics examinations. If it weren’t for Dr. Gloster’s lectures, I would go so far to say that I perhaps would have had a C instead of B in Physics 146 and I definitely wouldn’t be on 91st percentile in the
