Eating food is an obvious necessity to life, therefore many people are mindless with their consumption habits, and do not consider the implications of their choices. Mckay
A potential takeaway from the episode to be careful of what one eats is exemplified by the protagonist, Leela. After she devours the seemingly delicious alien offspring, she comes to the atrocious realization that popplers are sentient beings. And although the episode doesn’t outwardly reinforce the graveness of this matter, it doesn’t conceal the eeriness of it either, which contributes to the humorous tone of the episode. This is shown when Leela ironically discovers that popplers are intelligent beings, yet still licks the crumbs off of her fingers right after.
Moreover bad eating habits start in childhood regardless of weight. Some things that allow us to eat so irresponsibility is our busy lifestyles and poor choices. It seems that there is no escape from the fast food industry at times. It appears on billboards, the radio, and most importantly television. The few benefits of fast food include that it is quick and affordable, which if you are on a budget and busy, fits perfectly into your already chaotic schedule.
Also in the advertisements it’s not just focused to the kids, its sent to the parents also. If they say “One free toy in every kid’s meal for only $2.99”, a lot of parents would think it’s a good deal and if it’s getting late and there’s no dinner planned for the night, they will think that the fast food is cheap, convenient, and that the meal is the price you pay for. I have a little sister that’s almost eight years old and if we go through the drive through she always asks for a kid’s meal that comes with a toy, but did you know you can substitute the toy for an ice-cream cone? They “killed one bird with two stones”, in way because they just sold you unhealthy food and just on top of that a dessert. This is another example of how fast food is unhealthy for you and how they trick you to make the unhealthy choice that may seem
ost of us have horrendously bad eating habits! Want proof? Just look at all the overweight people you see. (Perhaps in the mirror?) No worries, our health and our bad eating habits can be easily improved by using the glycemic index food list.
Soul Food Junkies does a phenomenal job of introducing ideas. This film overall also does a great job in defending the minority opinion by allowing real people to speak on why they continue to do what they do and what real leaders are proposing as solutions to a problem. There are controversial opinions, but this film is meant to be watched with an open mind. In the final moments, the audience is called to action to personally reconsider their dietary choices. In this way, Soul Food Junkies is extremely successful in demonstrating how easy small choices can change our society’s view of unhealthy soul food.
As humans we aren’t taught how to properly deal with stress. And most of the time people will turn to food or starvation as a form of coping. Over eating is a very common result which then forms a person to be suitable for obesity. It’s a way for one to express their feelings without actually speaking but using action. Growing up children whom parents suffer from this illness will more than likely follow their footsteps.
In an article from national society they mention that the foods that are killing people slowly isn’t only the fast food or the high processed foods that is found in the grocery store but the extremely processed salts, and refined sugars. It is mentioned that because of that it can cause autoimmune diseases. Schlosser also mentions one of the diseases that are deadly if not treated properly, “ More than half of all American adults and about one-quarter of all American children are no obese or overweight”(240). All this had started since the late 1970’s and its still going on in this day in age, but many do not want to realize that it is something that n one should be proud of. Obesity happens because many people tend to consume fast food because it is the easiest option than taking time to make a nutritional meal.
We need to start eating more of nutritional food. We are the number one most overweight country in the world. You may be genetically skinny, but it doesn’t mean you have a heathy body. Eating all of the junk food will slowly by slowly hurt your body, and you don’t know what will be coming your way. The many people of the United States should care for about their body health.
This video made me very upset, it made me fed up with what is going on in the world. I feel as if I have been lied to which I have been, how we can live in a society where these big food companies can make us fat. No one can do a thing about it because all they have to do is use their power to threaten the opposition into submission. The fact that these companies have such huge stakes in the US government which blows my mind. They have no right to use their big corporate power to be involved in the government and whisper into the ear of those with power.
These are just some of the things that cause people to become obese. Now America is one of the most obese countries in the world. Mainly from people not getting enough exercise. Exercise is a big point why Americans get obese because they sit there and do nothing. On top of
Some have stated that race or socioeconomic status plays a big role in obesity. However, while some groups do have higher rates of obesity, every group has been gaining weight at the nearly the same rate. This suggest that race doesn’t play a role, and something else is behind the cause. With food being cheap compared to income and with it being more convenient than ever, Americans can’t help but get their fill of these unhealthy foods. “We have a survival instinct that drives us to eat constantly, because in human history starvation was the problem," Sturm said.
People should, realistically, be eating far, less, but the reality is more than ever
We should not blame anyone else for being overweight. When we choose to eat something, we know to some extent how healthy or unhealthy the item is. Weintraub says, “before we start talking about banning fast food, let’s do more to encourage personal responsibility.” Personally i fully agree with this statement, everyone is entitled to do what they have to do to remain healthy but not much people are doing it. Most kids nowadays are resulting to television or video games, having eaten the unhealthy items they ate throughout the day, without exercising or getting some sort of activity into their daily schedules.
