The Non-GMO talk passionately about the effects GMOs have on human bodies and the environment. They do have valid statements such as, “In the absence of credible independent long-term feeding studies, the safety of GMOs is unknown” (Non-GMO Project). This is completely true. There have been no long-term studies on what GMOs can do to humans which can be a caution people can take when deciding of they want to consume products that have been genetically modified. However, the other of this argument, the people against GMOs, have created such a panic within the rest of the country that many decide to get GMO free products just in case there are negative effects.

According to a study by Lauren Rene Moore, 1 in 3 adults began eating gluten free food because of labels. Similarly, fear of GMOs arises from GMO labels since labels are used as warnings to inform consumers of possible harm or allergens in food (Millstein 7). GMO labels are unnecessary because genetic modification is safe, beneficial, and regulated by the FDA. Genetic modification is not a new concept.
Sixty-one other countries enforce consumer "right to know" laws for GM foods (Burghaard). In the United States, it is expected for foods to have a label that says what is in it. Consumers expect for labels to say if artificial flavors or colors, vitamins, peanuts, or other ingredients have been added. Consumer’s attitude towards GM foods is conditioned by the risk that they perceive from introducing food that is processed through technology that they hardly understand (Bawa & Anilakumar).
Also, some people may not believe in using GMO. Just as well, labels don't even cost very much. GMO should be optional, not putting GMO labels on GMO foods is not giving people the opportunity to choose. America is supposed to be a free country.
The most sickening problem about this issue is that nations such as Canada do not label these GMO foods. Not knowing that a product is genetically modified can allow companies to increase in sales but, companies should indicate that a product is genetically modified because it is not naturally made, can be a potential risk to your health, and many people
Everyday people are eating genetically modified organisms and don’t even realize it! There are many people that have absolutely no knowledge of what GMO’s are. The United States needs to pass a federal law requiring the labeling of all genetically modified foods in the country. There are over 60 countries around the world that require the labeling of GMO’s, so why isn’t America doing the same? As consumers, we have the right to know what we’re eating and feeding our families.

Genetically engineered foods, or foods that contain ingredients wholly or partially synthesized, are not proven to be either safe or unsafe. However, the Coalition Against the Costly Food Labeling Proposition still has a problem with labeling their foods - why? Their name supposedly says it all, labeling GMO foods is costly.
Most genetic engineering is designed to meet the corporates rather than the consumer’s needs. However, more and more people are growing to believe that GMO products are being produced to be ‘counterfeit freshness’ and some believe that there is no real issue. But are people just being blinded by the science? In its place of providing individuals with beneficial information, obligatory GMO labels would only intensify the misconception that so called Franken foods endangers people’s health. Most major European retailers had to remove GM products from their shelves because they were worried that this kind of technology would drive people away.
The problem is that scientist do not know the effects of these genetically modified foods. We have no idea if there is long term health effects. Eating food that we have no idea if it could kill us in the long run is something no one wants, but not letting people know if what they are eating is genetically modified food it one of the problems in the United States. The labeling of genetically modified organisms should be mandatory in the United States.
Once under this concept, there is no need for special labeling (ResearchSEA, 2016). The most common GMO crops are corn, soybean, sugar beet and cotton. Many processed foods contain ingredients (high fructose corn syrup and soy protein) from one of these crops and is very likely to contain GMO (Byrne, Pendall & Graff, 2014). Arguments for labeling of GMO foods claim that consumers have a right to know what is in their food, and allows consumers to avoid the types of foods they wish avoid. There are religious and ethical reason for labeling.
People may just overlook the fact of what they are eating but there are many people who care about our foods and what other our eating. A group called Just Label It are a group of people who come together to make sure parents know what they are feeding their kids, also so they know what they are eating themselves. The group Just Label It found a 1% chance of having GMO’s in their food. Even though the percentage is so low it was a big deal to the non-gmo eaters because they go to Trader Joes to find foods without GMO’s in them.
It’s a popular topic on the media that GMOs are bad for the human body. Well, little did the they know that ninety percent of corn grown in the US is genetically modified (Margie Kelly), and the body can 't even distinguish between GMOs and non-GMOs! There are people debating that GMOs are unhealthy, bad for the economy and even the environment. These people must be uneducated on this topic. Genetically modified crops improve our society because they allow farmers to yield a larger crop, improve the quality their crop, and lessen the negative environmental impacts of their crops.
Had he gone further into the report he would have found that organic fruits and vegetables are significantly closer in price to conventionally grown ones. We are all paying extra for the fallout from GMOs. This case indeed shows that food labeling issues are not only vital and extremely important today, but also that there is very hard to come to a solution. It would be very easy to label everything, require companies to let consumers know every single ingredient and in turn, hope to increase global health levels. However, it seems that opposing side has very strong arguments and companies are reluctant to sacrifice their profits in order to improve consumers health, which, very interestingly, is sometimes argued would not be achieved by doing so
