In “Gnomeo and Juliet” the gardens cause the feud. The gnomes constantly try to have the better gardens and will even go as far as to purposely sabotage the other group's garden. This differs from the cause of the feud in Romeo and Juliet. In Romeo and Juliet, the feud begins over the want for power, even at the very end of the play the two families still try to outshine each other. Lord Montague says that he will make Juliet a “statue in pure gold” ( Shakespeare 5.3.316) Capulet challenges this by offering something even better and bigger. Even though their children died over the feud they still try to one-up one another. In Sound of Waves unlike “ Gnomeo and Juliet” and Romeo and Juliet the feud over wealth causes the problems. Juliet “ [does] violence of herself” (Shakespeare 5.3.274) and by the time found their both dead. This ending differs from Sound of Waves where both characters survive. Terukichis resolves the conflict when he announces that he has chosen “ Shinji [as] the one [he’s] adopting for Hatsues husband” (Mishima174). Though Shinji gets chosen, Terukichi decides that Hatsue and Shinji can not marry yet due to their young ages and Shinji will have to continue to prove himself as a good fit until then. The ending in West Side Story depicts sadness but brings some peace. At the end of West Side Story, Chino shoots Tony killing him. Maria takes Chino's gun and threatens to kill herself, she ends up making a rational decision, not shooting anyone, including herself. The “gangs” come together to lift Tony's body.
