As teachers strive to ready students for the 21st Century, it seems that more and more challenges are being encountered on a daily basis for our kids to be engaged and ready for learning. Teachers have to recognize all students can and will learn in their own way, in their own time, given the right opportunity and safe environment to do so. Teachers have to identify the barriers and facilitators of both the students and school in order to best support the unique perspectives, life situations and backgrounds that each individual has, meet them where they are at, and ultimately help them become life learners.

I will develop routines for increasing and strengthening the value of student teacher verbal interaction. I will tailor my interactions towards disciplinary actions with more empathy and “Love and Logic” responses. I will increase the number of extended teacher contacts and student ideas in lecture/discussion settings.
Goal Statement Two
Benjamin Franklin stated, “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” Some of the ways I will empower and give students the building tools of their learning is by providing student-based projects, high level questioning, cooperative learning and problem solving applications. I will increase the opportunities to engage in student-based projects. I will tailor my center choices to provide choice boards and include many of the multiple intelligences. I will tailor my questions using the Bloom’s Taxonomy during discussions and interactions to encourage higher levels of thinking.
