Throughout history, people did not have the right amount of knowledge they need to figure out why certain things occurred. Today we have scientific answers and research to explain to us how and why some things occurred. Unfortunately back then people did not have this, so Ancient Greeks created their own answers about the world and people’s value in it. These answers are simply called “myths”. To be accurate a myth is a traditional story that usually has to do with a hero or an event that was heroic. Myths also usually describe the emotions and morals that are destined to the members of society. The majority of myths talk about heroes, gods, goddesses and other characters that have supernatural powers. Just like any other mythological character in any play or story, Goddesses were described in depth like they should be. Goddesses are mainly new friends in their own personality. Despite their supernatural powers, Goddesses are very similar to people. Their actions and reactions to situations are based on their emotions. Their emotions went from feeling superiority, jealousy, and love to the idea of a revenge plot. Aphrodite was the most attractive goddess of all Olympia. She was also known as the Goddess of erotic sexual love (unlike Athena who was a virgin), good looks and richness. Aphrodite was categorized under a fertility goddess. Her name when translated stand for “foam risen”. This was not just her name, she was also named Venus, Dionaea (which was after her mother Dionne) and lastly after the island she arose onto after being made from the sea foam she was name Cyprian.
