The Godfather of Soul James Brown has so many nicknames, and each name has a different story behind it.as a kid growing up in a whorehouse he was called little junior, as a teenager in prison they called him music box. On the road in the 50s, he was called the dynamite. In 60s, when he said” Die on your feet, don’t live in your knees”, he became soul brother number one, then they called him the god father of soul. The Soul survivor is a documentary about the one and only Mr. James Brown. It tells the story of the godfather of soul. From the day he was born until the day that he quit singing by losing his soul. Brown began his career as a gospel singer in Toccoa, Georgia. Joining an R&B vocal group called the Avon’s that later evolved to become The Flames, Brown served as the group 's lead singer. First coming to national public attention in the late 1950s as a member of The Famous Flames with the hit ballads "Please, Please, please" which was one of the biggest hits for him. Second hit was a song called “Try Me” which was a song that actually no one wanted to sign, but he paid for the demo, and after that it became the number one hit on the R&B chart. James Brown style was truly unique; from the way he dresses to the way he moves on stage. Even James brown Band said that he violated all the rules of music creating rhythms that were magically good. He is also the creator of the Funk. Funk is basically music genre that originated in the mid to late 1960s when African-American musicians created a rhythmic, danceable new form of music through a mixture of soul music, jazz, and R&B. Funk de-emphasizes melody and harmony and brings a strong rhythmic groove of electric bass and drums to the foreground. Funk songs are often based on an extended vamp on a single chord, distinguishing them from R&B and soul songs, which are built on chord progressions. His career was over forty-seven years, and he gave so much to music history, and created a place for himself in the American popular music history. James brown is self-made man, and he worked himself every step of the way. He earned every nickname he had, and his unique way of projecting his art will always be remembered, and no one can mimic his unique style. He passed away back in 2006, leaving a track of R&B, Soul, Funk, and even little bit of hip hop.
