The Israelites were God’s chosen people set apart to represent Him to other nations. They carried His presence, the arc of the covenant, and priests and prophets appointed to speak on His behalf and on theirs. However, just as all people are, the Israelites were imperfect and could not keep God’s law. They strayed from God numerous times and had to be reprimanded so that they could turn back to Him in recognition of their mistakes. Regardless, God was faithful and unrelenting to show mercy and kindness to His people, even when they faced adversity. During the time of Judges, a story is found in which two people lost nearly everything, yet God redeemed their story for His glory. It is straight forward giving only important details that are necessary to fully convey the story. As in the other narratives, a problem is presented where only God’s grace can completely restore the people involved. In this case, it was a foreigner and an Israelite being family through marriage. These two women made a journey to Israel following complete devastation in losing both of their husbands, one of course being also being a son. The other daughter-in-law made the decision to go back home to her country, but Ruth was determined to stay with Naomi and go back with her. She chose to take the one true God as her God and take refuge in Him. From there on God took care of Naomi and Ruth and blessed them more than they could have imagined or
