Golda Meir Biography Golda Meir, the first female Prime Minister of Israel, was born in Kiev, Ukraine on May 3rd, 1898. When prime minister of Israel Levi Eshkol passed away, she stepped up to take the position of prime minister at the age of 71, from 1969 until 1973. She was the third female prime minister in the world. Golda Meir was one of the strong visionaries behind the founding of the Jewish State. She was seen in the eyes of prestigious people, such as kings and presidents, as charming and wise. She was loved by the rest of society due to her elderly appearance and blunt style of speaking. Golda Meir was eight years old at the time. He put them in a flat in the impoverished Jewish section of Milwaukee. Golda Meir graduated from the Fourth Street Elementary School when she was fourteen years old. Her parents were not in favor of Golda going on to get a high school education. “ She wanted to be a teacher; they wanted her to find a husband” (Pogrebin 2). Golda went against her parents and “she enrolled in Milwaukee’s North Division High School and took after-school jobs to pay her expenses” (Pogrebin 2). Her arguments with her parents never ceased. Golda Meir ran away to go live with her sister in Denver and she went to school there. In Denver she listened in on Shayna’s and her friends’ conversations. Many of Shayna’s friends were radicals… whose debates helped refine Golda’s political philosophy” (Pogrebin 2). Golda fell in love with a man named Morris Myerson who didn’t fully share her passion and love for Zionism. She returned home after a year and graduated high school in
