The Golden Age under Abbasid rule was similar and different to the European Renaissance for a few key reasons. For example, the Golden Age during Abbasid rule brought and expanded new concepts in math, medicine and astronomy. Inventions like the astrolabe and the tea-serving girl were invented in order to better the lives of people during that time. The astrolabe helped ships navigate during expeditions and allowed captains to see longitude and latitude. The tea-serving girl was the earliest form of robot designed to serve tea to guests. Also, the Renaissance was a time that sparked the rebirth of education and inventions. The printing press and grain threshers attached to chariots are examples of inventions made during this time. Avicenna was known as the father of medicine and wrote many books about medicine that changed the course of heath forever. Additionally, individuals like Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo added to the art and accomplishments of the Renaissance. Leonardo Da Vinci painted pictures like the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper and was considered a Renaissance man due to all his achievements. Michelangelo, also a polymath painted the Sistine Chapel ceiling and sculpted David. Al-Biruni, Avicenna, Da Vinci, and Michelangelo were important factors to why each period was so successful. The Golden Age and the Renaissance were also different. For instance, during the Abbasid Golden Age, the Abbasids developed a strong bureaucracy to manage and control large affairs of the empire. A bureaucracy is a system of government in which most of the important decisions are made by state officials rather than by elected representatives. On the other hand, during the European Renaissance, Milan, Florence and other Italian city-states ran their own government.
