Ping! Ah, the perfect sound of a club striking a golf ball right in the sweet spot so it soars for yards. Happiness is glowing on my face and radiating from my being.

This single glorious moment would take weeks of failure, tears, hard-work, and determination. You would think living in twenty-first century America all people would possess the same rights and freedoms and everyone would be treated fairly. I found out the hard way, in something as trivial as golf this statement is a stretch. I overcame the idea that girls shouldn't golf because all genders are equal and I proudly challenge this idea every time I walk onto the course.

My coach openly ridiculed and taunted me, not only for playing terribly but simply because I was the only girl and he believed that golf was a mans sport. Quickly, I realized that my coach was not the only one with this deep rooted fallacy. One instance vividly protrudes my memory. One match against an all boys school, once it was announced that I would be playing a herd of boys rudely came up to me asked me if I knew what golf meant. As a novice I barely knew how to play, never mind the origin of the name. "Guys Only, Ladies Forbidden. So you should leave." As my mouth hung open dumbfounded, the same boys started and protest with the coaches in an attempt for me to not play. It worked.

The fierce opposition fueled my fire for greatness. Woman golfers are not unheard of, there are leagues globally, who says that I can't be a golfer too. I practiced every single day and ended up teaching myself how to perfect my game. By the end of the season, I went from the girl who wouldn't be allowed to finish a match, to the top golfer on the team. The true icing on the cake came at the sports banquet when I won the "Most Improved Player" award and my coach ended up in
