It was through athletics that many of us first came to understand that fear can be tamed; that on a team the whole is more than the sum of its parts; and that the ability to be heroic lies, to a surprising degree, within." -Susan Casey. Whether or not parents should let their child/children play a certain sport due to the dangers it could cause will continuously be an enormous debate. For any parent, it is hard for them to agree to let their child do something if they know that they could suffer from any form of injury. Parents do not see the real harm they could be causing their child by not letting them participate in such sports. Children learn numerous great lessons from getting to be a part of a team, which they can take and use for the rest of their lives. The appeal he uses is stating that, “Barack Obama recently told the New Republic, “If I had a son, I’d have to think long and hard before I let him play football.” This appeal is not one that even helps support his argument, because Obama also says that he would have a hard time deciding if he had a son. To strengthen his essay, he should have added more appeals to authority. People are more likely to be persuaded if someone with authority believes the same things. Golinkin should have also presented himself in a different way, his tone makes him come off as arrogant. He makes the reader feel like they are letting down their child and are setting them up to be less successful in life He should have used a calmer tone, that would help parents better relate to what he is trying to say. No one wants to listen to a side of the argument when they feel as if they be being belittled for what they
