Using The Outsiders, S.E. Hinton teaches the topic of good and evil to the reader. Ponyboy demonstrates characteristics of good and evil. The theme is “there isn’t a defined line between good and evil.” Greasers are stereotyped as rogue-like “hoods,” stealing things, getting caught up in fights, and a nemesis to the Socs, but according to Cherry Valance, Ponyboy is different.
