I referred to unit 7’s discussion post where you outlined your essay. So far your research has proven to make for an interesting essay. I’m sorry I did not find a persuasive thesis statement in Unit 8 though, meaning I’m not convinced that there should be a policy change. I know you stated this is a working thesis statement which was not included in unit 8’s post. If you don’t mind, I would like to give some guidance.

To write an effective thesis statement the writer should know the topic and be able to transition from the topic to the thesis statement. Also, thesis statements should only be one to two sentences. If the writer can't sum up the main idea of the essay in one to two sentences, then he/she doesn't fully grasp the main idea yet. Chapter 31 provided lots of information on thesis statements that helped me to fully understand what a thesis statement is and its purpose. In analyzing the sample essay, some of the strengths are the explanations and descriptions that are given throughout the essay. In the first paragraph of the essay, it covers the necessary background information into understanding the photograph. Providing background information about the art and artist was a great way to start of the first paragraph. I choose three articles that were closely related to my thesis statement. Actually finding these articles were a little more difficult than I first assumed. The first article, titled “Twelve-month outcomes of a randomized trial of the positive thoughts and action program for depression among early adolescents” discusses a randomized clinical trial that surveyed 120 children (ages 11-14) taken from a school community who had high depressive symptoms. Themes in Literature - Gender roles Gender roles are norms created by society. Our gender is given to us when born, either you are a girl or a boy, decided by how our body looks like. A girl is given norms to follow by society at a young age. A girl should usually be passive, nurturing and subordination, while those born male are supposed to be strong, aggressive and dominant. Position statement: For college Should I or should I not, that is the decision we all encounter when we finally reach high school. Now, there are many factors that will affect a person’s life. The most important of these factors is whether or not one has a college degree. Through out this essay I will discuss why I believe that it would be advantageous for students to continue their education in college. I believe this because the unemployment rate (proven by FRED) among high school graduates is incredibly much higher than people that have graduated from college.
