Q1. According to tradition, who wrote the Gospel of Mark? Why are modern scholars unable to verify that tradition? What themes in the Gospel suggest that it was composed after the Jewish Revolt against Rome had already begun? Though the author of the Gospel of Mark is unable to be verified, traditionally John Mark is considered the author. John Mark was the traveling companion of Paul and the interpreter for Peter in Rome. Modern scholars are unable to verify the tradition since the author does not identify himself and they are unable to link any existing writings about Jesus with the apostles or their immediate disciples (Harris, 2015). The three categories Mark talks of the Son of Man concept are: the earthly Son of Man who serves on earth, seeks the lost and forgives sin; the suffering son of man who must suffer and die, giving His life for sinners; and the Eschatological Son of Man who reigns in glory at the right hand of His father forever with the angels. In the Book of Ezekiel Jesus is referred to the Son of Man to depict His human nature on earth. In Daniel, the Son of Man appears as a celestial being with high authority.
