Gospel Of Matthew: Community Analysis

When I first came across the Gospel of Matthew, I was immediately drawn to Matthew 5:16: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” I liked the verse because it seemed to imply that, everyone was capable of shining bright. At that point in time, I was very much still discovering my role in the world and experimenting with different interests. I would often wonder about when I would have the opportunity to share the light in my soul to the community around me. Five years ago I became a member of the Shatin Baptist Church in Hong Kong. However, during the first two years, I was unable to find a sense of belonging with the community because I disliked participating in small group discussions. Instead, I often ran off to play with friends. Seeing this,My youth pastor and mentors put a lot of effort into trying to involve me with church activities more hoping I would find a sense of belonging there but my actions continued to disappoint them. Almost everyone in our youth division was relocated to another site within the same church system and only a handful of us were left in the youth division. Every Sunday we would only have small group discussion and no worship or sermons. I expected myself to welcome the change since there would be so much more free time, but after a week, I felt an uncomfortable feeling deep inside of me. Without the worship sessions and sermons, I felt that an important part of me was missing. On that fateful day, with the five of us left in the youth division, we decided to form our own worship
