AP U.S. Government and Politics Review Terms
Indirect Democracy: A system of Government where representatives are voted for and worked on their behalf of their voters. This system of democracy was first used by the Virginia House of Burgess. The colonies used this idea to run the new colonists government, they did not like the term ‘indirect democracy’ so instead the term ‘republic’ was introduced.
Mayflower Compact: The Mayflower Compact was the first agreement for self-government to be created and enforced in America. In September 1620, a British ship with over 100 passengers, called themselves pilgrims. They were bound for the new world with the thought of freedom.
Monarchy: The famous european philosopher, Thomas Hobbes, introduced the idea of an absolute Monarch. The idea of monarchy is that there is one ruler who abides over the whole government. Thomas Hobbes

Political Ideology: The set of values, morals, or principles and the role of government. Many people use a set of values to decide what kind of positions they stand on ideas. An example of political ideology would be, pro life or pro choice and standing by your beliefs in politics.
Politics: The activities associated with the governance of a country or area, especially the debate between parties having power. Producing activities that increase the popularity or power of the individual and run a government through different views of politics.
Social Contract: A social contract is the consent giving to a group of people to be governed.
Anti-Federalism: Anti-Federalists is the name given to the people who did not favor ratification of the United States Constitution. People like Patrick Henry, Edmund Randolph and others who feared that centralized power was an invitation to tyranny, were
