The previous years I had tried our for Opus, an honor choir for 7th-9th graders. But this year, I had taken a leap, and decided to do All-State. All-State is an honor choir for 9th-12th, grade but our school doesn’t let you audition until sophomore year. This was a big change for me, and I’m about to tell you more.
When I had found out about All-State choir tryouts, I also did find a scholarship opportunity sponsored by the Central High School Music Boosters. My friends, who were pestering me like rats trying to get to the last piece of cheese, told me that I should audition for All-State choir and go to the summer camp. The problem was that we couldn’t figure out which weekend would be better for everybody to come. This person saw that the second session worked, for all of the Central students auditioning for All State Camp. BOOM! the summer flew by and we were then slithering like snakes towards August 8th when the camp had been scheduled to begin. Once I realized it was coming up, I was back to panicking. Do I have everything that I need for camp?, I kept repeating, over and over in my head, like an old, broken record player, stuck on the same track. I had my clothes packed, my music for camp, but what else did I need at this point? They recommended fans, since there wasn’t any air conditioning. I decided to spam my room-mate Maria with texts.
