Hello Mr. Thwaites, and welcome to James Fowler High School! I am one of the many students enrolled in your social 10-1 class. As you may know, I am in grade 10, which means you are not the only one new to this school. Let me formally introduce myself. My full name is Gaganjot Brar, but I prefer the shortened version, Gagan. I have ethnic origins tied to India; however my parents immigrated to Canada in the late 1900’s. As a result, I was born here in Calgary about 14 years ago on February 12, 2001. I have lived here my entire life! At the age of four I started my education at a school named Crossing Park. I had attended Crossing Park from kindergarten to grade nine, or in other words, a decade. I am hoping to learn a lot about different cultures and how they have been influenced by one another overtime. I want to learn about their history, and how they are doing currently. More importantly, I want to hear different perspectives on certain issues, because it is always interesting hearing someone`s opinion. We can learn a lot from one another. Of course, I am hoping that by the end of this course I have a clear understanding of what globalization is, and the benefits and dangers it brings to countries. My goal in this class is to actually LEARN instead of trying to get good grades. My belief is that having enthusiasm for learning, results in earning good grades, but trying to get good grades cannot be done without your passion to learn. I think I can ensure my success in this class by attaining self-discipline and not procrastinating. Staying organized, paying attention in class, and completing all assignments are vital factors that will help me learn and live up to my full potential. Although I must confess, these skills are quite difficult to acquire, it will take perseverance and resilience. My plan is to keep a daytime planner to list due dates so that I hand in assignments on time. Sleeping earlier will provide me a good night`s sleep and will help ensure I am paying attention in class. When I do not understand a certain concept, I plan on asking for help during class, or scheduling another time to achieve a thorough understanding of the class lesson. These are just some of the ways I plan on becoming successful in social 10-1. As this letter comes to an end, I hope that I have given you some insight on my life, explained as to why I am an advocate of environmental health, and how I will guarantee success and achievement in this course. I hope you have a wonderful year teaching here, and that you have a good overall experience at James
