TYPE OF SPEECH: Persuasive Speech Topic: Graffiti is art Purpose Statement: To inform you about the culture of graffiti. Thesis Statement: Graffiti is not all bad, it actually brings a lot of emotion and culture to America. Organizational Pattern: Topical Introduction Attention Getter (Capture): Anyone walking down the street in a big city will see the bright, colorful, and illegal “eyesore.” Introduce the topic: Graffiti is illegal in many places but many larger cities also have “legal yards” where artists can paint without the fear of being arrested, like Freak Alley. Some people can not afford canvas so they use the walls on the side of the road. Support: Art is a way to express emotion and pain. It is better than self harm and taking anger out on others in the form of assault. Support: So do we want people committing suicide because they couldn’t find a way to express themselves, or do we want a little art on the side of the street?
