When it comes to the workforce, many are faced with a common challenge, grammar. Believe it or not, grammar is a highly sought-after skill that is desired by employers when interviewing candidates for a job. Jeffery J. Selingo, writer of “Why can’t College Graduates Write Coherent Prose?” published in The Washington Post writes about this subject. He starts by talking about overhearing an interview while having breakfast and notices a rather interesting comment made by the interviewer, “I was a math major, but the biggest difference in business now is good writing. To start, in Weins article, he tells how important grammar is to him when looking for candidates to employ at one of the two companies he manages. As for Adams, her article is more about how grammar is changing. To start, a good point Weins makes in his article was how he felt good grammar can show one’s good business sense. To elaborate, he seems to be saying that if you have good grammar it could reflect on yourself as a person, therefore, foreshadowing the potential of the individuals work ethic. Adams says something in her article as well that supports Weins argument on good grammar. Adams illustrates in her article the growing grammar mistakes by bringing attention to The Wall Street Journal discussing the increasing grammar errors that younger individuals are making in the workforce. So, like Weins statement before, good grammar can, in fact, show good business sense. But there are skills that are very important that I need to master before graduating, Communication and grammar skills. Actually, this process has already begun. As soon as I enrolled in classes here at Thomas Nelson my grammar and communication skills improvement process began. The first thing that I do to improve my grammar and communication skills is participating in group activities where I am required to talk to my peers. Learning to communicate with others and speaking clearly is very important. Especially in the field, I plan to work in. so I will start going out of my way to improve my communication skills. Because without being able to speak clearly to others, it could be detrimental to the patients' diagnosis when I get the job. The next communication skill is listening. I practice this in the class by giving my undivided attention to my peers during presentations or conversations. It is beneficial that I learn this skill also when I become an RN as well. If I am good at listening it will help me better understand the patient, therefore better diagnosing the patient. And finally having an open mind and being understanding. Learning to be understanding and have an open mind, in my opinion, will be an excellent skill to have. With these skill’s I can learn to work together with others, resulting in a positive outcome. This will benefit me as an RN by showing teamwork and in the end, a positive outcome
