There are differences and similarities between people. Everyone is all unique in their own way because of the experiences they gained throughout their life and how they reacted to these kind of situations will stay with them or change them. In the films Memoirs of a Geisha and Gran Torino, Thao Vang Lor and Chiyo Sakamoto both have differences and things in commons. These two characters are Asians, however, one is Hmong and the other is Japanese with very distinct traditions and roles due to their gender. Both of these characters are the 2nd youngest in their family. For Chiyo, her older sister Satsu left her behind when they planned to meet on the bridge at night to escape. Before leaving Gion, the area they are in, Satsu didn’t want to leave without money so she told Chiyo to meet her tomorrow night. On the next night, all Chiyo has to do is to show up so both of them can get away from this place. Sue, Thao’s older sister, is seen to be independent and standing by she believes in. Even though she is a girl, she doesn’t let anyone push her around, especially men who have their full attention on her. Thao is a complete opposite of Thao, who is seen as weak man.
