John Steinbeck is an American Pulitzer Prize winning novelist. He was born on February 27, 1902 in Salinas, California. Steinbeck had loved to write. He started his work as a writer at the age of 14 years old. Even though Steinbeck enrolled into Stanford University, he later dropped out in 1925 to fulfill his career as a writer.
After dropping out of college, Steinbeck had taken on jobs such as a newspaper reporter, a construction worker, and a caretaker. His first novel was Cup of Gold in 1929. John Steinbeck was known to write his novels and series of short stories on economical and social issues. In the excerpt above Lennie tells George about the first impression he wants to have on the boss they are going to see. Lennie tries to get the idea into George’s head that the man will be quick to judge him. Lennie seems to be the kind of character that loves to manipulate people. He also seems like a person to put himself on top of everyone else.
Today in society, people are too quick to judge others based on their speech, race, and many more characteristics. Looking at magazines and television ads, you only see skinny and tall models. Directors and producers take bias towards people because of weight or hair colors. Luckily, the world is changing and in the near future everyone of every shape and size would be able to be on magazine covers and television ads.
