Ch 2, R-10, E-13 responded to the sound side marina for a reported grease fire. Ch 2 arrived on scene and established command. Ch 2 noticed a 12 quart cooking pot filled with grease actively burning with flames protruding from the rim of the pot. The fire was confined to the container. Bystanders disconnected the propane tank and attempted to extinguish the blaze by shoveling sand into the pot. R-10 deployed a hand line for exposure protection. Initial temperatures from the thermal image camera (TIC) revealed readings of 750 degrees Fahrenheit. The extreme heat caused the pot to deform preventing the lid from creating a seal and suffocating the fire. R-10 placed an 8x8 piece of plywood over the top of the pot and extinguished the blaze.
