Imagine fearing walking down the street by yourself. When wealthy Socs can attack you at any unexpected moments. Greasers live a rough and tough life on the East side, some without parents or ones that show them love and care. They’ve all gone through something difficult in their life, and that’s what makes them bond so well. The Greasers show love and self-sacrifice to the whole gang; looking out for them no matter what happens because that’s what they need -a loving family. Their love for eachother holds the gang. Love is not a main idea in the Outsiders but readers can see that love the Greasers are in a robust gang, that Johnny and Dally aren’t loved at home so the connect with each other and how Ponyboy doubts Darry’s love from him. Readers can learn from this so they can understand the meaning of love and how strong it is, in the Outsiders.

The gang treats each other like family and stands up for the gang members. The gang showed Greasers what true love and affection are. It is significant how all the Greasers bond so well because they work together and go through many challenges in their life and learn from those experiences and from their mistakes. The members can rely on each other because they know they care and love one another. Love doesn’t mean to act generous all the time, it could mean shouting at someone because they know what’s stupendous for them, and want the best for them. When the person gets shouted at, they can learn from their mistakes, so it won’t happen again. The Greasers especially care for those who aren’t loved at home, that’s why they are like a family. In the Outsiders, love means self-sacrifice. It might not be obvious in the book, but there are many examples of it. Overall, the Greasers car for one another and that’s what true friends are
