The Great Chicago Fire Do you think that one simple cow had started a huge fire that took down one place within two days? The disaster, The Great Chicago Fire that had happened in 1871, spread quickly because of all of the wooden buildings in Chicago fire at the time of the disaster. Also all of the heat that Chicago had received had made the building vulnerable to the fire. Only 110 died and way more bodies were still unfound. Some of the impacts that it had on society is that it showed others not to build buildings out of wood. The fire had started around the O’Leary’s barn and because of the breeze it blew northward. This causing the rest of the city to catch ablaze (Potter 10). A couple of way the disaster from the aftermath of the fire, could have been prevented is that they could of had the knowledge not to build out of wood. Another is that they could have had a few firemen still in the area at the time. But if it weren't prevented it would have still help to have five or more firemen there at the time. If the disaster would not have happened the world would have been different because everyone in the world would be living in wooden buildings. Stores would be out of wood and we would all be vulnerable to fire at any time. The fire, known as the great Chicago Fire, destroyed a lot of homes and killed a lot of people. The myth is that a cow had started the fire. Well everybody could be wrong about that, because others think it was something else.
