The United States at their lowest point in life The Great Depression was the worst economic downturn in U.S history. It began after the stock market crash of October 1929 from growth and speculative expansion which led to bank failure and caused a major detrimeant . Then months later the south central region got hit by the dust bowl and after that Roosevelt was elected to be president to fulfill his promises. All the series of events affected the Americans because it destroyed their economy. The stock market crash is what started the great depression. The market started increasing when people began speculating and began to borrow money from banks which led to more problems. The Dust bowl stretched from south dakota to texas and included several states. According to author Sonia Benson the Dust owl is the reason people traveled from the south central region down to california. The Dust bowl exacerbated the Great Depression's crippling economic effects and forced many farming families to flee in a last ditch effort to find jobs and better living conditions. ‘The population dropped 40% with 1,642 small farmers and their families pulling up takes”. In other words Author Benson believes the dust bowl exodus was the largest migration in america history by 1940, 2.5 million people had moved out of the plains. Basically, writer Benson is warning that if the dust bowl destroyed living things in the farms it was time to make a big move and risk it. As a result of the drought.crops began to fail with the onset of drought 1931 exposing the bare over plowed farmland. “An estimated 650 million tons of soil blew away leaving farms devastated”. According to Benson during the storm and the wind carried off most of the crops and covered fences and cars, homes etc, and they tried to eat pastures of livestock and cause mud balls to form in there stomach as a result and many animals died. During America's worst time of their life FDR promised to use the power of the federal government to stop the economic decline and improve the lives of Americans. During this hard time in life Editor Kelle s says that FDR immediately went to work and introduced the new deal in 1933. The new deal is an opportunity which considers several programs, projects and reforms to help Americans with their Financial situations. “Roosevelt delivered periodic radio addresses called fire chats to reassure Americans That the Government is looking out for them”. As a promise from FDR he wanted to make firechats also known as podcasts to make Americans feel safe and keep them updated. According to Kelle when FDR introduced the new deal it changed the U.S economy including legislation that provided work for 2.5 million jobless people. By the spring of 1935 president FDR introduced a new set of programs in the country called the second new deal which gave them life benefits. “These reforms gave Americans confidence that the government would come to their aid in times of crisis like this”.According to Kelle says that FDR main goal is to fix the economy and provide jobs which he did as also created a second deal to help with benefits and negotiate for higher wages and provide pensions through Social Security. This is important because without FDR help or World War II happening they would have a hard life and end
