Sweetened Beverages and Depression

In life we face daily struggles, frustrations, anxiety, and a number of other feelings that we sometimes can't explain. The feelings or emotions may last for an hour, day or even longer. Depression is a mental disorder that can lead to death if not treated. So, what is depression? Depression is classified as a mental disorder. Depression occurs when individuals experience fluctuations of mood, loss of energy, weight loss, insomnia and demonstrate a total detachment from others. Depression symptoms vary per person. There can be many causes of depression. Depression can be linked genetically, environmentally, or biologically. Does the food we eat affect our emotional moods? Any of these tests can be used. However, none of test asks questions directly relating to the consumption of soft drinks. They ask general questions such as poor appetite or overeating. Numerous studies have taken place over the last five to 10 years to determine if there is a link between sweetened drinks such as soft drinks, tea and other sweetened drinks and depression. In several cross-sectional studies, frequent drinking of sweetened beverages was associated with higher prevalence of depression, suicidal thoughts and acts, and other mental stress.
