The Great Depression
Have you ever heard about the Great Depression? Just imagine what the people that lived through it dealt with. The Great Depression happened in 1929 and ended in 1941. It had effects on millions throughout the United States. It caused a huge number of unemployment, rising rates of poverty, and a huge economic collapse.
One effect of Great Depression is that the unemployment rate skyrocketed! The highest number of unemployment was during 1932-1933, according to “Great Depression - Facts & Summary - HISTORY.com” there were roughly around 15 million people unemployed, more than 20% of the population. People were being laid off by the plenty, simply because the owner of the business didn’t have enough to pay their workers. However, the text “The New Deal” states that, “The Civil Conservation Corps, CCC, was one of the new Deal’s most successful programs. It addressed the pressing problem of unemployment by sending 3 million single men from age 17 to 23 to the nations’ forests to work. The men dug ditches, built reservoirs, and planted trees.” By doing so, the men were now employed and providing revenue for their families. In fact, they were paid about $30 a month and two thirds of it was sent back to their families.
