While reading the article "Great Sexpectations: What about Gender Roles in Same-sex Relationships?" there are many words of repetition and anomalies. This article is about gender roles in a gay male relationship. When straight people see people in gay relationships, they tend to wonder who is the “female” and the “male” in the relationship. In this article, the author uses repetition with many of the words. One of the repeating words is gay; the whole article is about the gender roles in gay male relationships. Other phrases that repeat often is girl/ boy and man/ woman. The article states that, in gay male relationships, there is not a girl and a boy. They are simply both men. An anomaly is something that is different from what is normal. In society, the "normal" relationship has always been man and female, not same-sex. Same-sex relationships have taken a long period of time to be socially acceptable. Just a few years ago, same-sex marriage had just gotten legalized. Still, in 2018, a wide variety of people still believe that it is faulty to seek compassion in a relationship with two companions of the same sex and do not accept same-sex relationships. Numerous people conclude that it should not be allowed because it is not "normal" according to society. He says that, in a gay relationship, there is no female. The author says, “Because there’s nothing wrong with the guys who like wearing skinny jeans, putting highlights in their hair or shopping all the time” (needs a citation). Just because a guy likes to take care of his appearance similarly to how a female does, one should not make him the "female" in the relationship. He is still a man. He may just pamper himself better than other males. This whole gender-role issue all gets viewed the same. Everywhere you go, there will be people that make decisions based on what they have always known and had been taught in school: traditional male and female relationships. In schools, instructors do not teach about same-sex relationships, not even in sex education classes. When uneducated straight people see male gay couples in public holding hands while taking a stroll in the park, they judge. They observe and try to see which of the two is more "feminine or girly." In the article, the author says "Just like the muscled, bearded gay man doesn’t have to be the “‘man’ of the relationship” (needs a citation). This what? is an anomaly. Being just a regular person and seeing this manly bearded gay guy with his shorter, blonde-haired, scrawny boyfriend holding hands walking through the park, some people automatically think that the bearded “manly” gay guy
