The desert heat burned at my heels as I dashed through the sand. I could see the fortress in the distance, and my compatriots in similar distress. I could hear the waves and smell the familiar sea air as I neared the fishing village, or what was left of it. The desolation had come in an instant, annihilating all traces of kingdoms and empires south of Kiel. Francia, Alemania, The Sultanates, all gone in the blink of an eye. We were the only ones who saw it coming. My people had fled north in the abandoned raider’s ships and landed amongst great canyons of ice. Fjords, the raiderfolk called them.
