Parents fear children will not be ¨better off¨ in the future. The American Dream is not as great as it once used to seem. People have these unrealistic ideals and standards for their children and themselves. The issue is that people are stuck in this fantasy idea that limits them to finding true happiness and success. Their concept of this dream can lower their self-esteem and cause doubts about one's child or themselves. The Tulsa Massacre is an example of White people ruining the success of Black people. In this massacre they ruined buildings and left 8,000 homeless (Source D). After a false accusation of a teenage African American, whites took it upon themselves to destroy the city that was known as the ¨Black Wall Street.¨ They destroyed businesses and homes. This proves the difficulty of different races reaching this American dream due to racial inequality within America. In The Great Gatsby, Tom shows his white supremacy when he expresses his fear of being ¨utterly submerged¨ and ¨looking out for the white race.¨ This shows the constant racism and beliefs people maintain throughout the years. Even making it difficult for people of African American descent to overcome these oppressions. That limits them from reaching a high status in society as regular human beings. Others may argue about the benefits and events that happened or were made for black people in particular. Even if Black people are open to any opportunity like Whites, it does not erase the bias, racism, and prejudice people have had throughout the years. ¨Gatsby himself seems like someone in pursuit of the American Dream.¨ In the book we know Gatsby's goal was to achieve ultimate wealth to lure Daisy. He was not from a wealthy family, yet managed to achieve this success and dream through wealth. He is an example of someone who worked to obtain wealth. In the book Tom reveals that Wolfsheim ‘’bought up a lot of side-street drug-stores here and in Chicago and sold grain alcohol over the counter. That's one of his little stunts. I picked him for a bootlegger the first time I saw him, and I wasn't far wrong." This reveal debunks the lies Gatsby has made of himself. It proves how he achieved this new money wealth. Even if it is an immoral way to work his way up he still managed to get it without originally being from wealth. Some may argue that nowadays it is way easier to obtain success through social media. This platform has made it easier and more accessible for people to achieve their goals. However people still need to put effort into their work so that their audience appreciates what they have to
