Scott Fitzgerald is an American classic that has been taught to generations, it would be very inconsiderate to just stop teaching it because it is a timeless novel that teaches you about the true meaning and the depravity of the American dream and what it does to someone's mindset and how it can destroy lives The Great Gatsby takes place in the roaring twenties which is known for its extravagance and societal change. This is why schools need to teach this because it helps students realize that change is something that happens. Another good way that the novel and article reflect the American dream is how people will do anything to achieve it and there is nothing that can get in between them to obtain it in the novel, people do some ridiculous things for money “He and this Wolfsheim bought up a lot of side street drug stores here and in Chicago and sold grain alcohol”(133). This shows that people did just about anything to reach this dream, which caused them to abandon their morality and do whatever is necessary to gain wealth.
