The Great Gatsby was written by F. Scott Fitzgerald and would fall into a mystery category for its genre. The Great Gatsby explains the life of a man named Nick Carraway who moves away from his home to start a new life in New York selling Bonds. The setting takes place in Long Island New York in 1920. Throughout this book you will find many different characters and their own personalities. This story has more than one theme in my opinion such as love, society/class and mortality. Lastly look out because there is symbolism. The Great Gatsby takes place in Long Island New York in 1920. These places were also known as East and West Egg. Before Nick had moved to New York he had previously fought in World War 1 and went to school at Yale. The story is narrated in the eyes of Nick. I would definitely say that Nick Carraway is gentle and not obnoxious because throughout the book he is very respectful to everyone he meets. He is definitely a protagonist. Next is the man himself Jay Gatsby also referred to as Gatsby. Mr. Gatsby is a wealthy man who is neighbors with Nick and lives in a somewhat gothic mansion by himself. Gatsby is definitely a odd man who only seems to be active on Saturday when he throws very lavish parties. Nick later realizes that Gatsby got all his wealth from taking part in criminal activities. Gatsby is also a protagonist. Tom Buchanan is the wealthy husband to a woman named Daisy Carraway who is the sister of Nick Carraway. The book describes Tom to have a hulking figure. Tom is a short tempered man who treats his wife poorly and does nothing for her. The reason I chose Tom as the antagonist was that he treats daisy poorly and when she wanted to leave him for Gatsby he flipped out. In my opinion I believe that Tom is the
