"The Seven Deadly Sins" can be traced back to the 4th century when a monk named Evagrius Ponticus generated a list of sins, likely stemming from problems he saw in his own day. All the sins have different definitions but they all lead to the same thing: unhappiness and destruction. I choose to talk about Greed. Greed is one of the biggest things that end business. They become to money hungry and become and animal. Just take a look at the economic crash of 2009 and one will see the impact of greed on the economic system. Nowadays it seems enough is not enough. The drive to increase the margins, improve productivity, and lower prices is the main things in business. The problem people don’t always do it the right way. What gets lost is the balance between the drive for just making money and making work enjoyable. When people find joy in their work, they want to help to improve the business and are more creative and willing to offer suggestions. While the desire by management is for collaboration, often the management does the opposite placing people in competition vs. one another. Soon, people start to compete against each other in the race for the increasing salaries and awards. The problem is that it’s all about one person’s glory instead of the benefit it could have on everybody. Greed creates hateful, heartless animals and that adds to the crime and death rate.
