Many Americans love shopping, especially during the holidays, with its captivating discounts and sales, which lead to uncontrollable splurges on irrelevant things. According to Quindlen, this is an example of America’s crazed consumerism and it is absolutely absurd. In her article, “Honestly, You Shouldn’t Have”, she states that there is currently an assumption that purchasing American merchandises symbolize an act of patriotism and at the same time, build a strong economy. She also states that we, as Americans, need to acknowledge important spiritual values such as friends and family rather than material goods.

The author uses irony of saying their life is happy because they have a lot of money, although they are not living a happy life shows that you do not need money to live a happy life, money cannot buy happiness. The children acting wild and powerful is because they symbolize the lions that killed their parents. If the children get to carried away and not pay attention to their family, they will shut them out of their lives. Also, when the parents found a wallet with lion saliva on it, that foreshadows there will soon be danger, which was their death.
In the novel The Maltese Falcon, the motif of greed is used to exemplify the destructive influence potential wealth has on one’s morals. This is shown through Sam Spade’s decision to hand over Brigid to the authorities, Brigid’s deceit throughout the novel, and Gutman's choice to use Wilmer as the fall man to avoid his own prosecution for crimes committed. Sam is portrayed as someone who is willing to deviate from the law, is extremely intellectual, and is prepared to go to any extent in order to get the treasure he desires. Sam Spade is entangled in the pursuit after the falcon by Brigid’s scheming. Sam falls in love with Brigid even after he discovers her dishonesty.
Christmas Greed Greed is the one thing that everyone in the world has in common. Greed can cause cause someone to be selfish and hurt those around them as a result. Bad greed causes people and others around them to get hurt. Greed can change a person’s personality.
These are all traits that would describe Walter Lee and his actions. Walter Lee is a character from the play A Raisin in the Sun in which a black family tries to get out of poverty and go against stereotypes by trying to start over with their Grandpa’s life insurance money. A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry explores the concept that greed leads to being blinded by money and forgetting about one’s loved ones as shown by the climax of the play, the character of Walter Lee, and the effect that his actions have on the rest of his family. The Character of Walter Lee shows that greed blinding a person can cause him to forget about the ones he loves.

No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy, illustrates the relationship between human will and greed with death. Throughout the book, Llewelyn Moss struggles with greed and endangers himself and his family.
For example, the opening first story explains her desire to eat American food instead of Indian food. She describes how the children at school have tuna salad sandwiches her mother doesn’t know how to make it nor does she really care for the food. Describing her desire for American food foreshadows to the relationship between her parents and even her culture. A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, shows how a greedy man turns from his life of cold-heartedness. Ebenezer Scrooge is the greedy man in the novel who values his money more than anyone or anything. His greed has caused many people to dislike him, even his employees find him cruel and cheap. He begins to change, however, when he is visited by his dead partner Jacob Marley. Marley warns Scrooge that three other Spirits will be visiting him throughout the night, and will help convince him to change his ways.
The parents’ actions after the change from them caring for their children to the nursery caring for them shows that they are scared of the change. The parents are scared that there are going to be further changes to their family and want to change it back to before the nursery. However, some disagree with this theme and say that the main theme of the story is abandonment. They say this because there are many points in the story which showcase abandonment. The children’s actions also support the theme of people are scared of change.

Greed is an “Intense and selfish desire for something, especially wealth, power, or food” (Oxford Dictionary). In The Maltese Falcon, everyone has the aspirations of finding the falcon for themselves. This is the driving force behind the murders, and betrayals many of the characters commit. Brigid, Cairo, Wilmer, and Gutman all seek the falcon for the same reason, the unimaginable wealth it will bring them. Possessing this rare object seems to consume them and they will do anything to get their hands on it.
Greed for power has always been evil and even made a saint turn into a demon. As the quote goes “All power tends to corrupt and an absolute power corrupts absolutely” (unquote), which is true not only in the fictitious stories but also in real life and Shakespeare, th9e greatest writer ever known, has always been in habit of making fictitious character come alive and Macbeth is no exception to the rule. The character of Macbeth has two sides, one which is wholesome while other been dubious. He symbolized great ambition but went overboard and in the process not only became corrupt but also became a killer. Macbeth reflects great strength but within he has his own weakness and thus good over took evil resulting in its downfall and finally his own death.
The Prince of Morocco, Prince of Arragon and Bassanio from Venice, reveal their character traits of greed, pride and wisdom through their casket choice. The Prince of Morocco reveals his greed through his choice of the gold casket. When the Prince of Morocco arrives he has no desire to marry Portia, instead, he mentions the other virgins who adore him and how his dark skin is loved by many. The Prince hopes that Portia will not use his skin colour against him and choose another suitor.
The work of Will Eisner’s A Contract with God, though created in a time of different ideas and lifestyle, are still applicable to modern society. In A Contract with God the concepts of religious struggle, Greed, and prejudgment, show off various faults within the Human Nature. These notions are expressed through not only the text but the accompanying visuals which create an atmosphere not seen before in its time. Being the first graphic novel while being able to stand the test of time definitely give the right for the highest prestige for comics to be named the ‘Eisner Award.’
