What impulse do you believe attributes the most to the destruction of human morales? Greed happens to appear as a desire that clearly deserves a place near the top of the list. It is something that tempts everyone and because of this greed often recurs as the theme in many stories, movies, and books. The reason greed commonly receives attention relates to how incredibly interesting the topic is due to modern day relatability, especially in american society. The story, Treasure Island, suggests that greed negatively affects all human beings through the Israel Hands and his remarks to Jim Hawkins, the various battles and the loss of life that occur on the island, and finally the discovery of bodies of treasure seeking men who Captain Flint had murdered to protect his treasure. …show more content…

They went as far as to kill people who did not agree to join the mutiny in order to protect their secret, thus preserving their chances of successfully stealing all of the treasure. One of the pirates, Israel Hands, tells Jim, “Him as strikes first is my fancy; dead men don’t bite. Them’s my views-amen, so be it.” This provides interesting insight into the philosophies of a pirates who has lived the greedy, harsh, and dangerous lifestyle for more than thirty years.
