The earth began as nothing but water and darkness, and all the animals were in Galúnlati, above the stone vault that makes up the sky. Galúnlati became so crowded that the animals needed more room, and they wanted to move down to earth. Not knowing what was below the water, they sent down the Water-beetle to explore. Water-beetle dove below the water and eventually came back with some mud from below. That mud grew and grew, and finally it became the island that we call earth.
So it is very likely that there was an original story or event that came from one group of people. As this group of people split up and spread all across the world their story of creation was carried with them. Over time this story changed into the many different variations that there are today.
Between “The Babylonian Creation Epic” and “Theogony” there are many similarities and differences that can be found. One similarity between these two is the idea of two beings, Tiamat and Apsu (fresh and salt water) and Gaia and Ouranos (earth and sky) who couple together and give birth to the first gods. In Gaia and Ouranos’s case, these ‘gods’ are called Titans. In the Babylonian story Marduk, a son of the gods, kills Tiamat and creates humankind from the blood of one of the gods who stood on her side. Whereas in “Theogony” Ouranos is hated by all of his children and ends up castrated by his son Kronos.
There are many different creation stories, but I will be focusing mainly on the similarities and differences of the Iroquois creation story and the Hebrew creation story. The Iroquois Creation Story and the Hebrew Creation Story are similar in many ways. On the contrary, they are also dissimilar in many ways as well. Although they are both different stories, they still are important to many people and will continue to be future The Iroquois creation story was how the Iroquois believed how things were created. There was the Sky-World where people inhabited the place.
The Sky Spirit used his mighty power to fill the world of nothingness with flourishing land, trees, oceans, and new species all around. Scavenger went on and used his body to create the rivers and rugged
They created the Earth and the light and the plants and then decided that they needed beings to worship them. They created animals but the animals couldn’t worship them the way they wanted. The first time they tried to create Man, they weren’t suitable so they destroyed them and tried again. They did this twice before finding a race of Man that was suitable. The Old Testament says that there was nothing in the beginning and each day, God created something new.
God created light-weight and separated the sunshine from the darkness, career light-weight "day" and darkness "night." Day two - God created associate degree expanse to separate the waters and referred to as it "sky." Day three - God created the dry ground and gathered the waters, career the dry ground "land," and therefore the gathered waters "seas." On day 3, God additionally created vegetation (plants and trees). Day four - God created the sun, moon, and therefore the stars to convey light-weight to the world and to manipulate and separate the day and therefore the night.
There are many parallels between the account of Popul Vuh and the book of Genesis which include the elements of earthly creation, a fall by temptation, and human creation The actual account of biblical creation of the earth is noted in Genesis 1. The Bible tells its readers that the world was created in six days, and on the seventh day, God rested from his work because it was good. Within those six days, God created light and dark, sky, land, the galaxy, the sea and flying creatures, and finally land animals and man.
Amazingly, creation stories from complete opposite sides of the globe feature similar details. Both Greek creation myths and Inuit creation myths are almost identical in some elements. In Greek mythology, Prometheus and his brother, Epimetheus, were tasked with creating all the creatures that roam the earth. Prometheus shaped man out of clay, and Athena breathed life into it. Epimetheus quickly gave all of his allotted good qualities to animals, leaving none for man.
There is a similarity in how the first humans in both accounts fall out of favor with their creators since they succumb to temptation and deceit. In Genesis 3:1-5 man disobeys God after being deceived by a serpent and the same happens in Hesiod’s account when man deceives Zeus by presenting an unacceptable sacrifice. Interestingly, in both accounts food is the major cause of temptation .This implies that both versions share a parallel intention which is to condemn greed for food and power. By explaining why man fell out of favor with his creator, these two creation accounts intend to clarify why man is alienated from his supposed creator in spite of being the most important and superior
Archetype and Mythology Essay The literature of ancient civilizations can be windows into the past. A great deal can be inferred about a society through their choice of story as well as how they choose to portray their characters. One of these archaic cultures was Ancient Greece. Known all over the world for its fine philosophers and intriguing mythology, to truly understand what it was like to live almost 3000 years ago, you’d have to look deep into their folklore.
Greek mythology can be viewed as a mirror to the ancient Greek civilization. Ancient Greek myths and legends often reflected how the Greeks saw themselves. Myths were used by Greeks to make justifications of every existing aspect of earth as well as their own society. In myths, Greek gods & heroes often represented key aspects of the human civilization. From Greek mythology, we can learn about the favorable characteristics of humans, such as their behavior and valuable skills that were approved of by the ancient Greek society.
One of the main similarities between these two stories is the fact that there are god(s) involved in the creation of life on earth. Even though Genesis says that there is one god and Popol Vuh says there are many, both stories are about the trial and error the gods face while trying to create humanity. The god in Genesis makes the mistake of letting Adam and Eve roam free in the Garden of Eden assuming they will not eat from the tree of knowledge. Of course, they eat from the tree, with encouragement from a serpent, and were banned from the garden. Later on in the story, “God saw the wickedness of man”(Genesis 70), and so there could be a fresh start, God decided to kill all humans, besides Noah and his ark, with a flood.
For example in the the Iroquois Creation story it states “ the turtle increased every moment and became a considerable island of earth, and apparently covered with small bushes”(David Cusick). In this section of writing it states that the earth was formed on the back of a large turtles shell. In the Bible in Genesis chapter 1 verse 1 it states “ In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth”. In this part of writing it states that God had created the heavens and the earth.
Creation is something people have different opinions about worldwide, this is a topic that has many different theories. There have been many different ideas that people have thought of in order to try to get people to think that it wasn’t God who created the earth. Almost always the new story got its ideas, based off the story of God’s creation of earth. Some of these crazy theories even try to show that humans were originally monkeys, before they were humans. God spent a lot of time and thought when he was creating the earth, and for people to deny it and not give God any thought is very sad.
