Walking on to a college campus, it quickly becomes evident that students have hundreds of ways to get involved and interact with others. These involvements range from cultural and philanthropic organizations, to leaderships and nonsense clubs such as “Lumberjack Club”. Although on most campuses, Greek life seems to draw the most significant amount of student participants. Greek life is depicted as an easy way to form meaningful relationships and get involved in campus activities. From an outside perspective, this appears to be something positive. From the inside, however, this positive opportunity could turn into a nightmare. As noted in the article, the reader can see that members keep this process incredibly serious and exclusive to the outside world. For that reason, a young man, Tim Piazza had his life put to an early end behind the closed doors of his Beta Theta Pi fraternity house. When Tim showed evident signs of drunkenness and distress, his brothers cared more about the state of their fraternity rather than seeking medical attention that could have saved his life. Given that he was only in the state he was, because of the way he was treated while in the process of becoming a respected brother. The acts upon him left him with a lacerated spleen and a numerous amount of brain damage. Young adults in the Greek life system are given a false sense of safety and security, because a person 's true brother would not usually watch him die without taking action to prevent it. As the article stated, security footage captured the entire incident, leaving no space for the fraternity to cover the truth of what really happened to Tim. The author of the article use descriptors such as “nightmarish” and “extraordinary” to describe the events that happened that night. Which can prove to the reader that the behaviors of the Beta Theta Pi were less than acceptable to anyone but themselves. Even then, a member was seen in the footage, trying to draw attention to the fact that Tim was in a state of distress. Instead taking this young pledges advice, like a mature adult would, the brothers proceeded to “slap and punch him, threw shoes at him, poured beer on him, and two members even sat on his twitching legs.” What is even more troubling, is that one of the older fraternity members that refused to help Piazza seek medical attention, was in school to obtain a degree in Risk
