The green light faraway, all the way on the other side of the river beaming as if trying to warn or reach out. This light is from the end of Daisy’s dock, which is who Gatsby is in love with and has been in love with for a long time. But just in this shot is the green light shining on the end of Daisy’s dock on the other side of the river.
I think the director decided to put this shot in the beginning to show that this green light is important, and an important symbol throughout this whole movie. I think this was shown to us to give us an example of how much Gatsby loved Daisy, how much he missed her, and how he wanted to be close to her so the green light is as close as he can get… for now.

Green can stand for many different things. I discovered during my study that it symbolises wealth, good health, fortune, and envy or jealousy, but I only want to discuss these three. Money is a major theme in the movie, and Gatsby believes that having a lot of cash will make Daisy fall in love with him. At the beginning of the film, they were all content and appeared healthy, but by the conclusion, the majority of them were having difficulty merely surviving day to day. As an illustration, Nick was initially very pleased with his new employment and home, but by the end of the movie, he was down and depressed due to what had happened to Gatsby.
