On January 29, 1991, a vile crime occurred in the Heikkila home in Basking Ridge, New Jersey. Twenty-year-old Matthew Heikkila, the adopted son of Richard and Dawn Heikkila loaded up a “sawed-off 20-gauge shotgun” (Sullivan). He labeled shotgun shells “Mom” and “Dad”, and shot his parents both in the head. Matthew plotted the murder to get the chance to steal his parent’s credit cards, and treat his girlfriend to a birthday dinner. Matthew then left his parent’s dead bodies on the floor of his home and he and his girlfriend enjoyed a night in NYC.
Aaron Sedrick is a senior at Joplin High School. He has made it his goal to graduate in the top 10% of his class with Honors. This ambitious goal is only a reflection of his dedication that permeates through the rest of his life, from waking up every morning at 5:20 am to get ready for LDS Seminary, to taking some of the most difficult courses his school offers. He attributes his ambition and dedication to his father, who started medical school just as he began kindergarten. This gave him the unique perspective of watching someone much older than him go through similar experiences and then succeed.
During the past few years, I have had many volunteer and leadership opportunities both in and outside of school. Truth be told, I’ve never been the most outgoing person, but many of these opportunities have helped me to step outside my comfort zone, and take leadership various situations. Through my volunteering experiences, I’ve learned many lessons. I believe that going to Archbishop MacDonald high school will continue to push me outside my comfort zone and become a great leader in my community.
Personal Statement Last summer I had the opportunity of participating in the U54 Sumer Research Program and it was an incredible experience, because it helped me in my professional development and discerns my future carrier goals. I want to return to MD Anderson Cancer Center, because it counts with a variety of physician scientists and physicians that integrate their clinical work with innovating research and this will improve my development as a future physician and researcher. Being able to do research in my area of interest and having the experience of a clinical rotation in pediatric oncology help me diced that I want to become an MD. My actual professional goal is to be a pediatric physician specialized in oncology, orthopedic surgery
He is in his first semester at Pasco- Hernando State College. Also, he has narrowed down his major to Emergency Medical Technician or Registered Nurse. Sylvester is drawn to the medical field because he wants to help people. He will also be the first in his family to pursue this career path. Seeing his cousin receive a scholarship to college is what influenced himself to work toward a degree.
More specifically the nurse anesthesia program and on my way to starting my career as a full-time nurse anesthesia. I don’t plan on starting high on the food chain, but I do plan on starting my way through the medical food chain and maybe eventually making it to the top. As far as things like what hospital and where I want to be I’m open to pretty much anywhere. I would be happy no matter where my job and schooling takes me. My first comprehensive exposure to the health care field was six years ago as a senior, during which time I participated in hospital-based schooling. This program allowed me to observe a multitude of different medical disciplines, with rotations in surgery, orthopedics, nutrition, dermatology, gastroenterology, neurology, administrative services, and many more. Three out of the five school days were dedicated solely to shadowing, and the other two were spent in the classroom learning various medical-centric studies. Once in college, I continued to shadow physicians whenever my class scheduled permitted. I participated in the 4-U Mentorship program, which paired me with a fourth-year medical student who was preparing to do his residency in general
The MSN in education is something I have passionate about for a long time now. The MSN from Benedictine University will help me reach my goal as being a more well-rounded, devoted professional nurse. Why did you decide to become a physician and how do you plan to use your time as an undergraduate student to reach your goal? *
I am currently an undergraduate at Rowan College at Gloucester County completing my pre-nursing studies. As I was growing up, I always enjoyed the idea of helping and healing others. My inspiration to become a nurse was watching my mother make a difference in the lives of elderly at a local senior living community as an Activities Assistant for years. Even though, she was unable to go back to school due to personal circumstances, the compassion she showed towards others around her was something special as she took care of them as if they were relatives. Whenever I had free time, I would just sit and play a game with the elderly residents hearing their life stories from when they were young.
Ever since grade school, I was passionate about working in the field of medicine, and science. I enjoyed anatomy, medical spelling and terminology, and reading about the healthcare industry. Because of my passion for healthcare, I decided to to attend Health Sciences High. There, I was given the best opportunities, such as, medical internships and college health courses. My plans and goals had turned me into a mature young adult.
I have chosen public health as my major because it is a dynamic field. I have a passion for making a difference in people’s lives and helping others achieve their goals. It is with great passion that I am dedicated and willing to contribute my service or skills to help someone in need. My philosophy of health education is very simple, to prevent, improve and educate the lives of individuals, families, communities, populations, and societies. Besides, there is no safer way to touch people’s lives than through public health.
Khabele was completely different from Westlake. I feel like I have learned more valuable knowledge in the three years at Khabele than I have the 10 years I was in the Eanes Independent School District. I have developed a better understanding of the world and a better understanding of myself. I am interested in getting a minor in Merchandising. This degree exposes the developmental and analytical part of the fashion world.
