In the book, Son of a Witch by Gregory Maguire, there are a lot of quotes that I relate to. For example, the quote, “Not everyone is born a witch or a saint. Not everyone is born talented, or crooked, or blessed; some are born definite in no particular at all. We are a fountain of shimmering contradictions, most of us. Beautiful in the concept, if we're lucky, but frequently tedious or regrettable as we flesh ourselves out.(Maguire)”, relates to me, because throughout my life, I have changed as a person. I used to be slightly rude to others that were harsh to me, but I had learned that doing what they had been doing to me was not fixing the problem, but instead creating a worst problem. Liir’s friend, Candle, explains in the book how your past makes up who you are and how you should never want to change your past by saying “Memory is a part of the present. It builds us up inside; it knits our bones to our muscles and keeps our hearts pumping. He was helping everyone, except himself. Candle spoke to him and said “Before you save anyone else, you have to save yourself. otherwise, you're just a bundle of tics, a stringed puppet manipulated by the chance and the insensible wind.” This make him think about his life, and knocked some sense into him. This is relatable to my life, because when I had no hope, my friend spoke to me and told me my strengths and how I was acting was foolish. That really spoke out to me and made me believe I could do something, and that I was going to go somewhere in life.
