The counselor and client should talk about different way to handle death or loss while going through the grief and mourning process. There should be a discussion about how it affects individual diagnosed with schizophrenia. Counselors need to explain how a traumatic experience such as death, may cause individuals to feel hopeless, anger, or depressed. In some cases clients might spiral into psychosis as a means of dissociation, or defend against facing the losses their disorder has caused (Wittmann & Keshavan, 2007).
