What worked well with our group project was the initial planning phase of the project as well as collecting data went better the expected. I contributed to our group project by providing a gender difference in our study when observing student’s smiles. Along with this I also complied all of the data into both our results section, and our graphs section. Averaging our results to account for having 3 female observers to 1 male observer, then making these results in a more user friendly percentage format. Also I prepared most of our group presentation to our class. In my discipline we communicate very information heavy results in a user friendly manner, sometimes you need to collaborate research to complete a project in a timely manner. When I wrote the first memo I highlighted many of our in class works and exercises. After that I sited my extensive experience in communication says that “One thing that I believe in is that an effective communication structure is key and resolves many issues should they arise.”. In some situations, during this course I did feel that this may have been lacking over different projects and over our group collaborative report due to last minute changes. In memo one I outline that my writing prior to this course was not as strong as I would like it to be and that through this class I could change that. I hoped to do this by improving my organization of thoughts in a way that is both easy to read and concise. I asked for assistance to accomplish this through instruction from my professor on the techniques every good writer has. Looking back on the course I do believe that I have accomplished these goals to be more conscious of how my papers are prepared and delivered. It is important to me because it overlaps with my field background study being mostly analytic and technical in nature. I believe that I have met this requirement in my writing being mostly analytical. Examples of this would be my literature review that covered very specific figures involving the Polymet mining operation. Another example is my technical writing as a part of my group collaborative project based on the research question is smiling contagious? Both of these activities helped me practice and demonstrate this skill set in an effective manner. For the syllabus on preparation and participation there are three distinctive categories: Below Standard, At Standard, and Exceeds Standards. To exceed standards, you are expected to prepare notes, questions, and ideas that initiate discussion that has supported points as well as textual references. For a student to meet the standards section a student must: bring required text to class, complete assignments, demonstrating respectful behavior in the classroom, contributed to discussion, and show active listening skills. Then for a student who falls below standard the student: did not bring the required text, did not participate in discussion, and showed rude behavior.
